Obama is going to put the CLAMP DOWN on Wall Street

As it should be. That joint has been running around with lack of regulations for years and got itself in trouble and still asking for a hand out. Clamp them down.

The Obama administration plans to move quickly to tighten the nation’s financial regulatory system.

Officials say they will make wide-ranging changes, including stricter federal rules for hedge funds, credit rating agencies and mortgage brokers, and greater oversight of the complex financial instruments that contributed to the economic crisis.

Broad new outlines of the administration’s agenda have begun to emerge in recent interviews with officials, in confirmation proceedings of senior appointees and in a recent report by an international committee led by Paul A. Volcker, a senior member of President Obama’s economic team.

A theme of that report, that many major companies and financial instruments now mostly unsupervised must be swept back under a larger regulatory umbrella, has been embraced as a guiding principle by the administration, officials said. continue

NY Bakery and their "Drunken Negro Face Cookies" to honor Obama

WTF? Double, WTF?

Lafayette French Pastry, a New York bakery in Greenwich Village known for its tasty cookies and treats, is coming under fire for a tasteless and racist batch of chocolate treats called “Drunken Negro Head Cookies.” The cookies are dark brown with exaggerated facial features and cherry toppings. Ted Kefalinos, who first introduced the cookies on Martin Luther king Day last week, says he made the cookies to honor Obama. He also admits that he is not an Obama fan but thinks the cookies are a winner for him since every one in his first batch was sold. When customers asked Kefalinos why he made the cookies, he reportedly mentioned Obama and said the new President will “get his” just like Abraham Lincoln who inspires him. “I’m sorry that people were offended by the cookie,” says Kefalinos, who insists his product is not racist.

Again, not racist? You expect people to really believe this? Unbelievable.

Jarrett to Replace Obama at the World Economic Forum

While President Obama has a lot on his plate, domestically, Jarrett will represent him in Davos, Switzerland at the World Economic Forum. Another cache, this will not be the "international rollout" I see Obama making. When that happens, it will be huge.

Valerie Jarrett, a longtime friend of President Obama's and a senior adviser in the White House, will attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on behalf of America's new president, an administration official said Friday.

The annual event draws the richest business leaders from around the world. This year, the discussion is all-but certain to focus on the deterioration of the global economy.

Two other top Obama aides -- National Security Adviser James Jones and economic adviser Lawrence Summers -- had been planning to attend. But the administration official said the pair will stay in Washington to attend to current issues.

Lillly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act Passed in the Senate

I never understood why any congressman\woman or senator would oppose equal pay for women doing the same job as a man. Lilly Ledbetter was a significant supporter for Barack Obama during the campaign and now this bill with her name on it is one step closer to becoming law.

A wage-discrimination bill that narrowly failed less than a year ago moved closer to becoming law last night, when the Senate passed the legislation and sent it back to the House for final consideration.

The measure, approved 61 to 36, would overturn a Supreme Court decision to make it easier for women to sue employers for pay inequity, regardless of when the discrepancies took place. It may become the first legislation signed by President Obama, who campaigned in favor of it.

This bill came to pass because Ledbetter discover pay discrepancies between her salary and the male counterparts, which ended up in a lawsuit driven all the way to the Supreme Court. What happened is that the lawsuit was thrown out because she did not file suit within the 180-day statute.
The discrepancy cost her lost wages and also lowered her retirement earnings because her Social Security and 401(k) contributions were based on her salary. But the court ruled that Ledbetter's case was not allowed under the 1964 Civil Rights Act because the statute of limitations on claims was 180 days after the alleged discrimination took place.

See what a change in the White House brings??? Satisfaction.

Obama to GOP, "Quit Listening to Rush Limbaugh if You Want to Get Things Done"

AMEN. No, DOUBLE AMEN.

Rush Limbaugh made himself look like a complete loser, along with Sean Hannity by stating he wants Obama to fail. Did he not get the memo on November 4th? The country, America needs him to succeed, so we the people will succeed.

This line of division would have been applauded, applicable Republican talk during the hey day of the Bush Administration, but it is totally wrong now.

There is no doubt that Bush-Cheney ruined this country and their Republican Party. It was this party that did not stand up and challenge the many grevious and illegal offenses caused by that administration. Instead of showing leadership the Republicans fell in line and was dictated by the White House. They did everything that Bush-Cheney told them to do and now look where they are at; out of power, in the weeds and irrelevant.

Barack Obama is absolutely right to call them out for continually using the Rush Limbaugh playbook. Do they think that Rush Limbaugh is the savior to their party? If so, they are about to lose some more seats in 2010.

"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts.

"There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats," the official said. "We shouldn't let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done."

There is a fundamental struggle going on here. Rush Limbaugh with all his oxycotin glory is becoming insignificant to the Republican Party. It was his rhetoric that did not help them in 2006, remember the "Micheal J. Fox incident" which helped Claire McCaskill win in Missouri? Rush surely did not help himself nor his party with that behavior. And do you think Rush was a help for McCain? Rush was totally ineffective in 2008. While Rush is watching Obama soar in solid red states by the recent polling numbers, he is losing his bully pulpit. Oh, there is that 22-25% that will listen to him to the end, but overall folks are tired of his nasty, divisive rants. Like Bush, they are just tuning him out. This is what the Republicans need to do in Washington, D.C., but more importantly they need to find a way to win again and it ain't with the anti-immigrant, good old white boy, rhetoric of Rush Limbaugh.

As Obama justly told the Republicans firmly, "I Won", he is also giving the Republicans a chance to get their act together if they want to work with him. Obama did win, this country won, and the Republicans need to get over it.

Obama to the GOP, "I WON"

HELL YEAH.

And he did not just barely win, he won by 7 points with a mandate. He has 59 Democratic Senators, he expanded the Democratic House Seats. The Congress is solidly Democratic.

Yes, GOP, Republicans Obama won. Period.

It is hard to swallow. Obama is being nice, considerate, extended the olive leaf first, but in the end he makes the final decision.

The Republicans can either get on board with this stimulus package or go sulk in their offices on the Hill. Lastly, they need to look at themselves and figure out why the public turned away from them to the Democrats. Until they can be honest and handle it, they will continue to be in the weeds.

The top congressional leaders from both parties gathered at the White House for a working discussion over the shape and size of President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus plan. The meeting was designed to promote bipartisanship.

But Obama showed that in an ideological debate, he’s not averse to using a jab.

Challenged by one Republican senator over the contents of the package, the new president, according to participants, replied: “I won.”

It is simple as that. Now Republicans we can work together, but if you want to bicker and fight on every nit picky point, then yes, you will get the "I Won" thrown in your face as a reminder of what this country voted for. It is just a pity that the Republicans were not man or woman enough to challenge their leader, George W. Bush, instead they chose to follow him over the cliff.
With those two words — “I won” — the Democratic president let the Republicans know that debate has been put to rest Nov. 4 .

It is put to rest, at least for the next four years.

Beautiful Bed for the Obamas to sleep on.....

Last week, Jeff Jenkins, proprietor of Leonards New England, a 75-year-old antique furniture business based in Massachusetts and Connecticut, delivered an early 19th century tiger’s eye maple four-poster bed to a warehouse in Maryland. The bed, which had been restored and re-sized to king size, was ordered by Michael Smith, the decorator hired to freshen up the Obamas’ private residence in the White House. Evidently, pre-inauguration, all the furniture for the new occupants was being stored in this Maryland warehouse, waiting for the move on January 20th. (Note: only the bed in this photo was headed to the White House. None of the other furnishings were included.)

“We know the bed is going into the private quarters of the White House,” says Aaron Jenkins, sales manager of Leonards and son of Jeff. But neither of the Jenkins know where in the private quarters the bed was headed. Nor could their delivery men see anything else stored in the Maryland warehouse. “They came back from delivering it and said everything was totally covered and wrapped,” says Jenkins.

Well, I love four poster beds and the next one I get, will be four poster. I also love old, antiques as I have been collecting a few furniture pieces for my home. This bed looks very vintage and keeps with the style of Michelle Obama.

Obama's First State of the Union Expected in February (Video)

I am glad this question was answered because I was wondering when or if he was going to address the joint session of Congress. The reason for wondering is that this speech is usually given in January.

President Barack Obama plans to address a joint session of Congress next month to deliver a State of the Union-style speech.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday that Obama plans a speech at the Capitol in February. Gibbs said no date has been set but joked that they are trying to schedule it around "Dancing with the Stars."

Michelle Obama not happy about the Sasha and Malia (Beanie Baby) Dolls

I don't blame her. Ty Inc., released the "Sweet Sasha" and "Marvelous Malia" dolls trying to make money off the Obama Girls. Let's just call it what it is, the company got caught with a backlash of people pointing fingers at them for capitalizing off of these kids, which Ty Inc. is doing. Then Ty Inc., puts a statement out that these dolls are not of the Obama Girls. I mean come on, this statement was released AFTER the backlash, do they think the public is stupid?

Anyway, Michelle Obama is weighing in and her weight is significant.

First lady Michelle Obama is not pleased about the marketing of a pair of dolls that bear the same names as her daughters.

“We believe it is inappropriate to use young private citizens for marketing purposes,” Ms. Obama’s spokeswoman said.

Ty Inc. released its “Sweet Sasha” and “Marvelous Malia” dolls this month. Both dolls have bronze skin and dark hair.

The dolls are part of the Westmont-based toymaker’s TyGirlz line. The company is also the creator of Beanie Babies, which have reportedly generated more than $6 billion in sales since their debut in 1994.

Again, the only thing that is selling in this bad economy is the name, Obama.

Obama to Lift Family Planning Gag Rule

President Barack Obama will issue an order restoring U.S. funding for international family-planning groups involved with abortion. But he chose not to do so on Thursday, the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

President Obama was breaking with the tradition set by his recent predecessors to make an abortion-related order on the anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling, another example of his attempt to support liberal policies he believes in while trying to defuse emotional political debates.

Making Money off the Obama Girls

Damn, got dolls out "Marvelous Malia" and "Sweet Sasha".

Ty Inc., is the company that makes the "Beanie Babies" dolls. The company is now back tracking stating these dolls are not based on the Obama Girls, this after the frenzy has been going a couple of days. Really? Do you really think we believe this? And out of the blue you name the dolls, "Malia and Sasha"? Wow, they must think we are really dumb.
In one of the first apparent attempts to profit from the star power of the new First Daughters, Ty Inc., the Beanie Babies empire based in Westmont, has come out with Sasha and Malia dolls. Or has it?

Part of the company's Ty Girlz collection, "Marvelous Malia" and "Sweet Sasha" are plush dolls priced at $9.99 apiece. The dolls debuted this month in stores around the country, said Tania Lundeen, Ty senior vice president of sales.

On Monday, Lundeen said the company did not seek permission from the First Family to use the Obama sisters' images. Two days later, the Ty executive said the dolls were not even based on the Obama girls.

I know folks are angry about this but the reality is that Barack Obama is public domain. The presidency, White House, First Lady and First Family is public domain. Is this crass and classless, one word, "YES", but the fact is that the only thing that is SELLING in this economy is the one word of Obama.

Rush Limbaugh wants Obama to Fail (Video)

It is wackjobs like Limbaugh that has the Republican Party and the GOP in a clusterf**k. You feel me???

America is quickly seeing its financial standing go down the drain, we are spending billions fighting a senseless war, and Americans have just voted for change, and Rush Limbaugh wants to see the president fail.

No one should be shocked. This is a guy who thinks he is the smartest person in the room, no matter how many are there. He's still seething that his little game of having conservatives vote for Sen. Hillary Clinton in various primaries did nothing to derail President Barack Obama to the White House.

Now he is basking in the media glow of pronouncing that he wants to see the president fail, and he tries to justfiy it by saying liberals didn't want to see President George W. Bush succeed, so why should he feel differently?

This is a prime example who the folks that listen to him are nuts, especially those blue collar workers with high school degrees. He wants to see you stay broke as hell while he sucks down $100 million a year.

For me, I never want to see any president fail. If America's president fails, we fail, and no one should want that.

Well, now Rush has to sit back and look at Obama and call him Mr. President when speaking of him for the next four years. That's probably what really pains him. But he'll just have to deal with it!

[UPDATE]

Rush Limbaugh now is cleaning up what he really meant, read it here.

Looks like New York Governor Patterson will appoint Rep. Kristen Gillibrand to the Senate

Just announced by MSNBC, Gillibrand was asked to come to the governor's mansion in Albany, NY tomorrow. Since Caroline is out, Gillibrand is in. Gillibrand is a Blue Dog Democrat, this seat is wide open for 2010.

PIX NEWS is being told that Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand is the reported choice of Governor David Paterson to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Hillary Clinton. Two Congressional sources say members of the New York delegation have been invited to join Governor Paterson for the announcement in Albany at noon tomorrow.

Two members of that delegation, agreeing to speak without attribution, confirmed to reporter Marvin Scott that the Governor has telephoned New York's Democratic members of Congress for their views after Caroline Kennedy withdrew herself from consideration. One of the contenders, longterm Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney canceled a scheduled appearance on "PIX News Closeup" tomorrow because of a "conflict," which she did not disclose. She too will be in Albany. According to the sources, Gillibrand, now in her second congressional term, was favored by Secretary of State Clinton herself. Paterson has been under pressure to select a woman.

With most Democratic leaders in Albany coming from the New York City area, one source said this would be an important move for the Governor to have a Senator from upstate. Sources say Gillibrand would be an asset to Paterson in any bid for election in 2010.

11M for a Sarah Palin book?

Once Sarah Palin stepped on the national stage, you could not pull her off. Literally. Palin even wanted to step on John McCain's concession speech to give a speech of her own, unprecedented and she was told CORRECTLY, NO.

Since, Palin had to go back to the unglamorous Alaska, I mean let's face it, the lower 48 is not Alaska, she just could not keep the microphone far away from her lips.

Now she is shopping a book deal. For what? What does she have to say about anything, really? She stumbled into the governorship, she bounced around from 6 or 7 colleges before she graduated, she is not that politically bright (SHE IS NOT, SEE KATIE COURIC), she energizes the 25% of the Republican base, she failed to expand the base and include women, she ran off the independent vote which allowed McCain to lose, and she was a whore monger on the 150K spent on clothes by dressing not only her but her family like they never had clothes before in their lives (and that story is still not clear), so what does she have to write about?

Sarah Palin shopping for a book deal?

$11 million for the story of the hockey-mom from Alaska who ran for vice president?

Michael Muskal of the Los Angeles Times writes that Robert Barnett of the Washington legal world, the book deal czar, is working with Palin. Barnett sealed the book deals for both Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton.

Barnett has declined to comment, our colleague notes. "But a variety of published sources, including the Hollywood Reporter, said that Barnett was on board in helping to sell a Palin book....

Look, I am sure she will be on Oprah, The View, Larry King, all the Faux News Shows, it is about selling books, but what does she have to say? For me, nothing. She was cemented in my mind as a Saturday Night Live, Tina Fey caricature that was dumber than a box of rocks. I did not do that, Palin did. Her daughter, Bristol got pregnant, had a baby, still has not graduated from high school along with the father of her child Levi Johnson. I am not on her about getting pregnant, but I do question Palin taking the VP position and putting her daughter in a very precarious position. No mother wants a teenager getting pregnant and not married, nor do we want to see that situation exploited by having to see Bristol and Levi sitting at the Republican National Convention and that message is just ok. Sorry, many families in this country was not feeling that message, I don't care how you try to package it.

Lastly, Palin is about Palin. Since she did not get to Washington, D.C. (Thank God), her only move is to continue to keep her name relevant, that name out there, and to cash in on it. And if she can cash in for 11M to write a book that she will SAY she wrote, but didn't, good for her. But she won't get my 15.95. WORD ON THAT ONE.

See the OLD White House Computer Equipment?

See that equipment above? That is ARCHAIC, OLD, BROKE DOWN, computer equipment in the White House.

No wonder Obama's website, whitehouse.gov is not totally there, yet.

I don't blame IT, techies, whining and complaining on equipment like that. In fact, my husband and I went through a bunch of computers (yes, we are both in it) and put them out to pasture that was sitting in a corner in one of our rooms. And that monitor? Are you scared, yet? OMG, have you heard of FLAT SCREENS? Hello? FLAT SCREENS? It reduces the space on your desk/workstation, ultra cool and replaces the 100 pound, clunky monitor.

There is nothing sexy or cool about that old assed equipment above, sorry I had to go there.

White House, first thing on the list, NEW COMPUTER EQUIPMENT, ASAP. For us, we to have a savvy, techie President of the United States and he does not have a laptop or have to look at ancient computer equipment which is not doable for 2009, is just a shame.

Obama is still walking around with that Blackberry

In this age of the 21st Century, I never understood the lame excuse that Obama could not keep his Blackberry. I also wrote that the Presidential Records Act needs a face lift.

Well, we see he is still walking around with his Blackberry. As it should be.

Barack Obama gets to keep his beloved BlackBerry with him in the White House for personal use, a victory for the man considered the country's first high-tech president.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said today that a small group of senior advisers — as well as personal friends — will be permitted to have the e-mail address that reaches Obama's smartphone.

The president has been adamant about continuing to use a BlackBerry, which has Internet and e-mail access, despite concerns that likely have made the National Security Agency as nervous as the Secret Service on Inauguration Day when Obama left his presidential limo twice to walk and wave to crowds along Pennsylvania Avenue.

The NSA works 24/7, there was NO REASON that Obama's Blackberry could not be encrypted and all information for that phone, email stored to a proprietary server. This is the 21st Century, not 1990.
Gibbs said Obama's use of the BlackBerry will be limited and security will be enhanced, most likely with heavy encryption to deter information from winding up in the hands of hackers or others who would want to see harm come to him or to the United States.

I am sure that heavy compromise was made, rules must be followed, and Obama KNOWS that anything he types is subject to the Presidential Records Act. That being said, "Way to Go!!!" I know I can not function without my PDA, everything is in on it and it is my computer on the go!!!!

Here we go with more tax problems, now from Caroline Kennedy

I don't know why folks, WITH MONEY, have issues paying taxes and have domestic help issues. We saw two of Bill Clinton's nominees derailed because of this, now we are going through Timothy Geithner and his oopsy of not paying taxes. Now the real reason Caroline Kennedy withdrew her bid for the Senate, taxes.

The whole thing with Caroline is that her whole rollout was botched from the beginning. I still believed that she would have been a solid senator, once appointed and a huge boost to New York Democrats running in 2010. The news last night was conflicting about Kennedy if she was in or out, then it was rumor that it was personal and about Ted Kennedy's health.

Well, here we go again. A person with money, but failed or staff failed to pay taxes.

Problems involving taxes and a household employee surfaced during the vetting of Caroline Kennedy and derailed her candidacy for the Senate, a person close to Gov. David A. Paterson said on Thursday, in an account at odds with Ms. Kennedy’s own description of her reasons for withdrawing.

[snip]

During the early afternoon Wednesday, the aide said, Ms. Kennedy became aware of what the aide referred to as a “personal situation” that could prevent her from fulfilling her duties as senator. The personal situation was not related to the seizure that her uncle, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, suffered during an inauguration luncheon on Tuesday, the aide said, declining to be more specific.

[snip]

Several people who have spoken to the governor said he had decided on Ms. Kennedy some time ago. A Democrat operative with ties to Mr. Paterson said the governor told Ms. Kennedy last week that she was the choice, but that he would use the next few days to do “a little misdirection to keep the suspense up.”

A person close to the governor adamantly denied that assertion.

“The fiasco of the last 24 hours reinforced why the governor never intended to choose her,” the person said.

[snip]

Caroline Kennedy, who stunningly quit her push for Hillary Clinton's Senate seat, is dealing with a "tax problem and a potential nanny issue," a source close to Gov. Paterson said Thursday.

"She was facing some potentially embarrassing personal issues" that came up during the vetting process, the source said, adding that the governor had decided she was not up to the job anyway.

From a bad rollout to a hideous ending. Caroline's people did not handle her well at all. If Geithner can be confirmed, the tax, domestic issue could have been explained and she still could have accepted the position.

Obama "retakes" the oath of office

This is one reason why the oath was a redo:

Yes, the conspiracy theorists were ready to pounce, but wait had already started to pounce. There is no doubt that Chief Justice Roberts flubbed the wording, just look at the video, so for precaution the oath was re-administered.
Chief Justice John Roberts has administered the presidential oath of office to Barack Obama for a second time, just to be on the safe side.

The unusual step came after Roberts flubbed the oath a bit on Tuesday, causing Obama to repeat the wording differently than as prescribed in the Constitution.

White House counsel Greg Craig said Obama took the oath from Roberts again out of an "abundance of caution."

The chief justice and the president handled the matter privately in the Map Room on Wednesday night.

Obama to sign order to shut Gitmo down in a year

President Obama is fulfilling one of his campaign promises, the closing of Guantanamo Bay.

President Barack Obama plans to sign an executive order Thursday to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center within a year and halt military trials of terror suspects held there, a senior administration official said. The executive order was one of three expected imminently on how to interrogate and prosecute al-Qaida, Taliban or other foreign fighters believed to threaten the United States.

The official said the president would sign the order Thursday, fulfilling his campaign promise to shut down a facility that critics around the world say violates domestic and international detainee rights. The aide spoke on condition of anonymity because the event has not yet been announced.

Hillary Clinton "In like Flynn" for Secretary of State

There were two far right hold outs, David "I love prostitutes" Vitter and Jim "Send All Immigrants Home" DeMint.

Jim DeMint, I am not surprised but David Vitter is trying to burnish his hardcore conservative credentials because he will probably be in a hard fight in Louisiana for his seat in 2010. And I mean a primary fight.

The Senate confirmed Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state Wednesday as President Barack Obama moved to make his imprint on U.S. foreign policy, mobilizing a fresh team of veteran advisers and reaching out to world leaders. The Senate voted 94-2, with Republican Sens. David Vitter of Louisiana and Jim DeMint of South Carolina opposing.

Republicans and Democrats alike said her swift confirmation was necessary so that Obama could begin tackling the major foreign policy issues at hand, including two wars, increased violence in the Middle East and the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran.

Judge Grants Obama's Request to Suspend Gitmo Trials

President Obama is on the move to close Gitmo...

The judge in the Sept. 11 war crimes case at Guantanamo has agreed to President Barack Obama's request to suspend the case pending a 120-day review.

The defendants opposed the delay. All have said they want to plead guilty to charges that carry a potential death sentence.

Army Col. Stephen Henley issued the ruling Wednesday after a brief hearing at the U.S. base in Cuba.

Prosecutors sought the suspension to give the Obama administration time to review the special system for prosecuting alleged terrorists set up by former President George W. Bush and Congress.

For those who missed the swearing in of President Barack Obama, let me recap. The oath was fine until Justice Roberts sorta messed up the WORDS. It was Obama, by watching the video, paused and let Justice Roberts recoup and get the wording correct. And another instance when Obama's wording was switched, which the righties are harping on.

Just as the far righties had lawsuits in the courts stating Obama was not a citizen, here we go again. He is not the President because the oath of office was not administered correctly and of course this is Obama's fault, totally.

On Fox News, Chris Wallace just speculated that President Obama might still legally be regular ol' Barack Obama, because his botched oath doesn't count.

Of course, expect frivolous lawsuits and expect the lawsuits to be thrown out.

Lastly, it is this behavior that have the Republicans in the weeds. America is tired of this bickering and especially on things that is totally ridiculous. Sigh.

Michelle Obama Inaugural Gown (Pictures)

It is a split decision, my take, just ok. Some folks do like it, bottomline it won't be memorable down memory lane. Was Michelle beautiful? Absolutely. Just an ok dress for a memorable night.

Her full-skirted dress had a strap across her right shoulder, a ruched bodice, fluffy appliques and sparkly beading. Mrs. Obama is wearing a Jason Wu gown this evening, which per tradition, will be donated to the Smithsonian.

Seven Obama Designees Confirmed by the Senate

Hillary Clinton was not confirmed and can not take over the State Department until, at least, Wednesday. Republican Senator John Cornyn from Texas did not give a consent forcing a roll call vote for Wednesday. His concern is Clinton's husband's business dealings. Hillary Clinton will be confirmed.

The list of those confirmed by unanimous consent:

*Steven Chu as energy secretary

*Arne Duncan as education secretary

*Janet Napolitano as secretary of homeland security

*Peter Orszag as director of the Office of Management and Budget

*Ken Salazar as interior secretary

*Eric Shinseki as veterans affairs secretary

*Tom Vilsack as agriculture secretary

Bush booed as he exits the stage

Is this a surprise? With that dismal record of his? As I have written, I hope I never see him on television again.

Former President George W. Bush and his wife have left Washington for their Texas home, after eight years in the White House.

Mr Bush was greeted with some boos from the two-million strong crowd at the inauguration of new U.S. President Barack Obama today - a strong indication of the bitterness with which some, though not all, Americans view the former leader of the free world.

Mr Bush appeared largely affable throughout the day, however, greeting the Obamas warmly and waving genially to onlookers as he escaped by helicopter back into his private life.

Again are we surprised???

Michelle Obama's Inaugural Day Outfit to be sold at Barney's

Per MSNBC, for a cool, $1500.00 for the whole outfit. And Michelle paid $1500.00 for the outfit.

For regular joe-etta's that is a bit much, but if you look at the whole outfit, the price tag is not that bad.

The jewel-collared, pale yellow lace coat, sweater and sheath dress ensemble featured a clever hidden layer of tulle, Pashmina and Swiss wool lace to help the first lady stave off the cold. Obama accessorized with green Jimmy Choo shoes and green gloves from J.Crew.

Toledo, who only learned that Obama would wear her design early Tuesday morning, told the Associated Press, "It's not just my moment and hers, but it's the world's." She said she chose the "lemongrass" color of the outfit for the optimism it represents, fitting as the Obama campaign based it's message on hope and optimism. "That color has sunshine in it," she said.

Many applauded the choice.

"I think Isabel did a brilliant job," says Simon Doonan, of Barney's New York.

The famously imaginative creative director spent the day changing three windows of the Madison Avenue flagship store to pay homage to the designer who is sold exclusively at Barney's in this region. "It's about formality, appropriateness and history and it is not the same rules as the red carpet," said Doonan. "The dress was regal and appropriate."

"I thought she looked beautiful," said Adam Glassman, Oprah Magazine's creative director. "With just that touch of embellishment, I think it came across as being special without being too royal. It was not like she was wearing the crown jewels."

And he likes the way she wears it. "She looks pulled together and chic but not scary fashionista. She wears it real, and you see her first, you're not looking at the outfit."

Though Obama looked presidential in a dark suit, red tie and white shirt, topped by an overcoat adorned with an American flag pin, new first kids Malia and Sasha Obama nearly stole the show in their bright coats by crewcuts, the children's division of J.Crew. Malia, 10, wore a double-breasted dark periwinkle blue coat with a ribbon at the waist, and Sasha,7, glowed in a guava pink coat with orange scarf and gloves and the hem of a coral dress peeking out.

I guess the fashionista's will be following Michelle and the Wee-Michelle's for the next four years.

Inaugural Poem by Elizabeth Alexander (Video and Transcript)

Transcript

Each day we go about our business, walking past each other, catching each other's eyes -- or not -- about to speak or speaking. All about us is noise. All about us is noise and bramble, thorn and din, each one of our ancestors on our tongues.

Someone is stitching up a hem, darning a hole in a uniform, patching a tire, repairing the things in need of repair. Someone is trying to make music somewhere with a pair of wooden spoons on an oil drum, with cello, boom box, harmonica, voice.

A woman and her son wait for the bus. A farmer considers the changing sky. A teacher says, "Take out your pencils. Begin."

We encounter each other in words -- words spiny or smooth, whispered or declaimed; words to consider, reconsider.

We cross dirt roads and highways that mark the will of someone and then others who said, "I need to see what's on the other side. I know there's something better down the road."

We need to find a place where we are safe. We walk into that which we cannot yet see.

Say it plain, that many have died for this day. Sing the names of the dead who brought us here, who laid the train tracks, raised the bridges, picked the cotton and the lettuce, built brick by brick the glittering edifices they would then keep clean and work inside of.

Praise song for struggle. Praise song for the day. Praise song for every hand-lettered sign, the figuring it out at kitchen tables.

Some live by "love thy neighbor as thyself." Others by "first, do no harm" or "take no more than you need." What if the mightiest word is "love" -- love beyond marital, filial, national; love that casts a widening pool of light; love with no need to preempt grievance?

In today's sharp sparkle, this winter air, anything can be made, any sentence begun. On the brink, on the brim, on the cusp, praise song for walking forward in that light.

Out with the Bushes, In with the Obamas

The day has come.

This is the last move for the Obamas, at least for four years, the move to the White House.

The Bushs had already started to move their personal things out this summer, due to Laura Bush, and have moved most of their things out by this morning. So, the next step for the Bushs is to welcome the incoming next president and his wife for coffee in the Blue Room with the incoming vice president and his wife and the outgoing vice president and his wife. Also in the room are the members of the JCCIC.

After the Swearing-In Ceremony of President Barack Obama is the farewell to President Bush and Laura Bush then the luncheon at Statuary Hall, lastly the parade. During this time the movers are working to move the Obamas in and the Bushs out.

The move is performed by the White House residence staff. Everything has been painted, wallpaper chosen and hung, all furniture in the appropriate spaces, all personal items unpacked and placed, with not a single box in site, as if the Obamas have always lived there. When Barack Obama enters the White House as President Obama, the Chief Usher will say, "Welcome Mr. President to your new home."

President Bush and his wife, Laura, will wake up at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on Tuesday morning, just as they have the last eight years. But by the time the new president, Barack Obama, returns from the inaugural parade with his family in late afternoon, there will be nary a box of theirs left to unpack. Clothes will be neatly folded in drawers, pictures will rest on dresser tops and walls, stuffed animals will lie on beds, as if the Obamas had always lived there.

The highly orchestrated quick-change operation, conducted by the 93-member White House residence staff, has no parallel in the outside world. The entire affair is over and done within a matter of hours, without a single moving man setting foot inside the Executive Mansion.

“It’s controlled chaos,” said Ann Stock, who was social secretary in the Clinton White House. “They have about four to five hours to completely unpack, put everything away in the closets, put the family pictures up and to really make the house the Obamas’ home by the time they come in from the parade. It’s really quite an extraordinary switchover.” continue

Michelle Obama is bursting with pride

Michelle Obama wrote a piece for USAToday Weekend.

People have asked me how I'll feel at that moment. As a wife, I'll be thinking about how proud I am of my husband and how I believe so deeply that he will be an extraordinary president. As a mother, I'll be bursting with pride at the thought of my girls now being able to envision endless choices for themselves and the joy it will be to watch them grow up in the White House. And as a daughter, I'll be profoundly grateful to my parents, knowing that I am here only because of their lifetime of faith and hard work.

They're my proof that the American promise endures. It's that promise we all share -- that our children might grow up with unlimited possibility, that our families might know the dreams of opportunity and prosperity, that people in every nation might look at the proud banner of this country and know the boundless meaning of hope.

As I take on my newest role -- first lady -- I'll be thinking about what that promise means to all those whom I've had the humbling privilege to meet these past two years on the campaign trail: Americans across the country who opened their doors and hearts to share their stories with me -- stories I carry to this day. continue here

Michelle? Girl, what are you wearing tomorrow?

The world or let me put it this way, the fashion industry is waiting with baited breath on what Michelle Obama will wear tomorrow. Rumor is that she is too busy to choose what to wear.

Well, I can understand and then I have my finger out shaking it at Michelle.

I understand that this is totally new for her, she has literally moved three times in a month and her children, family are her number one priority. I also understand that maybe, Michelle is causing a furor because she wants to.

Everyone is stating the "First Lady to Be" always releases the designer and sketches 36 hours prior. I say, and????? Well, many think it gives the fashion mouthpieces time to analyze their take on television, pump up the designer, and get buzz for business, yeah all that without seeing her in the dress. My take, so what. Yes, that is cavalier but none of these rules about what the "First Lady to Be" are etched in stone. Michelle Obama can release her information tomorrow or just let you see what she wears when she steps outside of the White House. Is that so bad?

These fashion houses are taking a hit while we are going through economic strife, many average Americans can't afford those price tags, anyway. Michelle Obama will be a trend setter, but in her way, not the way that everyone else wants her to be. In stating this, I don't expect Michelle to be a frumpy thing, I mean she will be the First Lady of this nation and that is status alone.

Lastly, I am of the consensus that Michelle, girl, I am really hoping you are not picking that Inaugural gown while standing in your closet tomorrow evening thinking, "What am I going to wear?" This is a one time dress worn and then donated to the Smithsonian, I am really hoping thought and preparation was made WAYYYYY ahead of time and that you are just taunting the press with not revealing any information.

Yes, I really hope so, because we don't want your first important step to be a fashion disaster.

Jill Biden let the real deal slip on Oprah (Video)

The real deal is that Joe Biden had offer of Secretary of State or Vice-President. Jill Biden then went on to explain that VP would be a better fit for the family vs. SoS which travels most of the time with that job.

During a taping today of The Oprah Show, Jill Biden said her husband was given that choice by President-elect Barack Obama -- presumably before Obama chose Biden to be his running mate in late August.

The Associated Press reports that "the vice president-elect tried to hush his wife as soon as the words came out of her mouth, with a loud 'shhh!' " Jill Biden, AP writes, went on to say that the job of vice president was better for the family, because as secretary of State he would travel too often.

Of course, Biden's people attempted to clean it up:
"Like anyone who followed the presidential campaign this summer, Dr. Jill Biden knew there was a chance that President-elect Obama might ask her husband to serve in some capacity and that, given his background, the positions of vice president and secretary of State were possibilities. Dr. Biden's point to Oprah today was that being vice president would be a better fit for their family because they would get to see him more and get to participate in serving more. To be clear, President-elect Obama offered Vice President-elect Biden one job only -- to be his running mate. And the vice president-elect was thrilled to accept the offer."

The tv audio clip is here in the story, listen and make your decision. I think Jill is more truthful than the somewhat cleaned up statement released AFTER the show.

Obama may not lose his blackberry, but everyone else....

Working for the government is ARCHAIC, believe me, I KNOW. My home system is faster, hipper more effective than my job "workstation". Now here we come to the White House, a place of residence and workplace only to look ARCHAIC to Obama staffers.

The lawyers broke the bad news to Obama aides at a briefing Friday morning convened by incoming Deputy White House Counsel Cassandra Butts: Not only are they leaving the modern world to enter a White House where some of the clunky desktop computers still run Windows 2000 but — worst of all — they'll be forced to surrender a form of communication staffers have relied on for the last two years to communicate with each other, outside allies, and the press.

From Axelrod, the chief campaign strategist, down to junior staffers in the press office, Obama's campaign relied heavily on software many of them began using in high school — AOL Instant Messager and Google Chat. Instant messaging, though little mentioned, is — perhaps as much as e-mail—deeply woven into contemporary politics and media, whose fabric is the constant, quick, gossipy transmission of spin and information. But a calculus that's perhaps one part security, one part law, and two parts politics, has long barred instant messaging from the White House.

That's right, NO IM, Instant Messaging. I am not going to LIE, I use it on the daily to keep up with my friends all over the country. This form of medium, while at your workspace, can be quicker than email. But I totally understand the must of giving this up, it is called the electronic trail.
"It sucks. It's really going to slow us down," complained another, saying that lawyers had warned that, along with instant messaging, White House software will restrict users to a range of sites roughly "like your average grade school."

The clunky technology is standard issue for government offices, but the bar on instant messaging is particular to the White House. Legal and security experts say it is dictated by the fear of embarrassment if IMs were to be disclosed. The Presidential Records Act requires White House documents to become public five years after a president leaves office, and most lawyers think it would apply to any instant messages discussing government business.

That lil' thing called the Presidential Records Act can catch you IN THE ACT, with the free wheeling of IMs. I know, some former co-workers got caught with some unsavory conversation and how did it happen? Well, their supervisor was suspicious of the overtly use of IM and wanted to read the conversations, remember the servers are like a date stamp and owned by the company, keeps the records and any admin with rights can pull the conversation off the server. The ease of IM and lingo can easily allow someone to slip and write something that is totally uncool and quite embarrassing.
"They're going to realize, once you go inside the bubble, it becomes much more difficult to maintain contact with the outside world," said Reginald Brown, a former associate White House counsel for President Bush. "IMing encourages a kind of casualness in conversation that will be the bane of the lawyers down the line. The reality is that if you want to engage in the equivalent of IMing, you have to pick up the phone."

Brown noted that, along with entering the permanent record after the presidency, the IMs could become public sooner in response to Congressional subpoenas or lawsuits.

This is the bottom line to all of this. Got something to say, need to catch up, pick the phone up. While my job allows IMs, many jobs don't or restrict IMs only within the job and only for work related issues.

I totally FEEL the young staffers going to the White House, but I have been harping on this, the Presidential Records Act needs a face lift to the 21st Century. It is totally laughable, to a point, that the White House is still behind the times. Just like Obama's blackberry messages and interaction can be preserved and protected for the Presidential Records Act, we can surely attempt to bring the White House up to 2009 technology standards. I mean, my god, Windows 2000??? That is totally archaic.

Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, "I Have A Dream" (Video)

When I was little, my mother had a blue album cover with King's picture on the cover and "I Have A Dream". That album, back in the day, was the best selling album of spoken word, EVER.

Barack Obama has asked for today, the holiday of Martin Luther King, Jr., to be a day of National Service. Throughout the day the Obama and Biden families will participate in various events, giving back to the community, their new community of Washington, D.C.

As the events rolls out, I will put posts up, but today I hope each and everyone of us are doing our small part to make a difference, to think about someone else besides just us.

Tomorrow is a change for this country, not just because Barack Obama is an African-American man who will take the highest oath in this country, but change from the polices and practices that were so unconstitutional under the Bush Administration. This change can not get here fast enough, for me.

King Day and National Service Day

Yes, it is the national King holiday, but today is also National Service Day.

Monday is the federal holiday commemorating the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr., and Obama is leading a day of community service Tuesday, asking the nation to honor King's legacy by making a renewed commitment to service.

Even before Obama ventured from Blair House , crowds started forming on the streets of the capital Monday morning. The attraction: remote broadcasts by television networks and local affiliates, and throngs of onlookers braved the cold to watch the live broadcasts.

The vice president-elect, Joe Biden, is also taking part in volunteer service. His wife, Jill, and Obama's wife, Michelle, are helping with a service project, too.

Transition aides declined to name the locations or details of the projects.

So, if you are in D.C., you just may run up on the Obamas or Bidens participating in volunteer service.

Sights Washington, D.C. has never seen

The Lincoln Memorial "We Are One" event was not just a star studded, celebrity laded event but memorable on various levels.

First, kudos must go to George Stevens, Jr. the executive producer of this show and HBO for allowing it to be viewed for free on its cable channel. Stevens is known for producing gala events, i.e., the Academy Awards shows, so I felt the staging and movement would flow and it did for a live event. Also Stevens pairing of the various singers, together was splendid and the song choices appropriate for the mood and tone of this country moving forward.

Several performances stood out to me, first Garth Brooks. I am not a heavy country western fan, I have a few that are in my rotation, but Garth Brooks showed last night "how to do it and do it right". I never expected that from him and it was a treat for me. Next was the duo of Usher and Shakira singing Stevie Wonder's masterful piece, "Higher Ground." Usher was a modern day Stevie Wonder on that stage and he did it with style. Shakira proved she is not a fluke and the girl got mad pipes, but the real feast was Stevie Wonder, himself. Stevie Wonder knows how to do it and he had everyone on their feet. Beyonce was stellar. Beyonce sang the national anthem and had everyone in tears. I was not always a Beyonce fan, but her vocals were STRONG yesterday. Mary J. Blige opened it up in her fantastic white outfit, wicked boots and the rendition of Lean on Me had the Obamas noddin' their heads with enjoyment, she was that good. Jamie Foxx and "Chi-Town Stand Up, 312", looking at Obama and then mimicking him, you had to see it to appreciate it. Finally, bringing Pete Seeger on the stage last night was priceless with Bruce Springsteen. Seeger is 89 years old and a known political activist and folk singer. The restoration of Woody Guthrie's classic anthem, "This Land is Your Land" was the next to last song sung from this fantastic program. The song alone spoke to millions of Americans that change is here.

This show will probably be in rotation again throughout the week, but below is a clip of "This Land is Your Land".

More information on the setup of the show, here and photos from the event here.
